I am an Arrernte artist from Central Australia. I have faith in who I am. I have faith in my country. I have faith in my relationship to the land. Pope John Paul II gave the Aboriginal people of Australia a message of faith in 1986 from Alice Springs when he said: ‘For thousands of years you have lived in this land and fashioned a culture that endures to this day.’
For Amunda Gorey, art has always been a part of her family. Growing up in Darwin, she remembers always painting and drawing. Both her mother, and her aunties are artists, so she grew up seeing a number of different methods which helped her develop her own unique style. She was a finalist in the 2008 National Indigenous Ceramics award, and also the 2007 Memento Awards Exhibition, Brisbane. In May this year she exhibited her work at the National Aboriginal Cultural Institute, Arne–Areye, Adelaide.
